Costa Rica

Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a gorgeous tropical country with a dry season and a wet season. The dry season is from December to May.

Evenings are cooler than most days and we do get a Pacific Ocean breeze. Indeed, days are hot and evenings are cooler.

Visitors from the most western countries can stay 90 days without applying for a visa. After that it is possible to get a visa extension. To be certain of your Visa status, contact the Costa Rican Consulate or Embassy in your home country.

In Costa Rica the currency is the Colon - the conversion rate is around 500 colones to one US dollar. Bring only US dollars (cash or traveler's cheques) - other currencies are difficult to change and get very poor rates.  There are some banking machines in major tourist destination that are connected to the international networks, and credit cards are accepted in major stores and hotels.

Vaccinations: No vaccinations for tropical diseases needed.

Malaria: No malaria in the center nor on the pacific side of the country.

Seasons: Whole year is travel season. High season is during the dry season between December and April.

Animals: There are a few dangerous animals in Costa Rica, but usually you will rarely ever see one. With some awareness and common sense you will not have any problems with them.
